Project: Robot of Death

This too was an early project of mine. Therefore, I shall try to remember the recipe as best I can.
Recipe
Basic 1:6 Scale GI Joe Figure
Gold Fabric
Gold Metallic Wrapping Paper
Black Metallic Wrapping Paper
Craft Sheet Metal
Red Glitter

The base figure was just a 1:6 scale GI Joe with the face sculpted from normal Sculpey. Again, I would recommend a more durable material such as Super Sculpey. As you can see, my sculpting skills leave something to be desired. I think the face on this one ended up looking more like Jon Pertwee than a Robot of Death. Oh, well. I guess when I try to sculpt a face for the Third Doctor, it will look like of Robot of Death.

The costume is made from scratch. This was before I had a sewing machine, so it is hand stitched. The crisscross “quilted” pattern is simply drawn on. About two days after I did this, I actually found gold material quilted in the appropriate scale! The best laid plans of mice and men… I shall use that material if I make more of these. They also make silver and metallic green. It makes my mouth water just thinking about an entire army of 1:6 scale Robots of Death. But, I am sure it would drive my wife to distraction. The trim on the costume consists of strips of gold and black metallic gift-wrapping paper, glued to the material.
The chest plate is thin piece of craft sheet metal (tin, I believe) cut to shape. The ridges on the plate are glue from a hot glue gun (as you may be able to tell by the unevenness). The entire thing was then painted gold and the designation number added. I then placed glue in the eye sockets of the figure and dropped red glitter in them for that cool “I’m being controlled by a maniac who thinks he’s a robot” look.
